St Lucia’s National Security Minister, Guy Mayers, said there will be no political interference in the operations of the police force as the island seeks to curb rising crime.
His comments follow recent changes to the police force as part of new government measures to deal with criminals.
One such change was the transfer of police commissioner Ausbert Regis to a new post in the Prime Minister’s office , a move that Mr Regis is now challenging.
Mr Mayers told the BBC Caribbean that the government also plans to acquire land and property in several of the trouble spots in the capital and demolish abandoned buildings as part of measures to improve security and reduce crime.
