The police in Bermuda have confirmed local reports that the son of Sport and Environment Minister Glenn Blakeney has been arrested in United States.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro told a news conference yesterday that the arrest happened in New York.

The minister’s son, Jahmel Glen Blakeney, is facing murder and firearms charges.

The charges are in relation to an incident of attempted murder of two persons in November last year in Bermuda.

He was arrested at the time of the offence and later released on bail.

The police say the minister’s son later fled the island on November 30.

They say an extradition request has been made to the US for him to face the Bermudan court.
