De Villiers, Prince revive South Africa
AB de Villiers and Ashwell Prince shared an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership to revive South Africa from a wobbly position on the second day of the opening test against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
At Sports Time, the visitors were 205 for five with de Villiers on 50 and Prince on 47. South Africa had resumed this morning on 70 for 3 and slumped to 107 for 5 inside the first hour as Shane Shillingford 3 for 63 and Sulieman Benn 2 for 59 each claimed a wicket.
West Indies, which dominated a rain-interrupted opening day, made early inroads when nightwatchman Paul Harris swatted Benn to extra cover.
Harris lashed Shillingford for a six over long-on but departed for just 10.
Shillingford, on debut, then claimed the prize wicket of Jacques Kallis for 28.
Kallis came too far inside his stumps and was plumb leg before as he missed a big off-break.
