The London-based Privy Council has dismissed the extradition appeal of two Trinidadian businessmen.

Ishwar Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson were seeking to avoid being sent to the United States to face fraud charges related to the Piarco International Airport.

Last month, their attorneys filed written submissions to the Privy Council after the Appeals Court in Port of Spain dismissed their challenge to the extradition.

The two were among several former public officials charged in 2002 with various offences, including conspiracy to defraud the Trinidad and Tobago government in the Piarco International Airport rehabilitation project.

In 2006 they were among eight people indicted by a Florida grand jury, in relation to corrupt practices concerning two packages for the construction of the airport terminal.

Their lawyers have also written to Attorney General Anand Ramlogan asking him to block their extradition, arguing that the proceedings were unjust and oppressive.

Ramlogan is now expected to sign the warrant of surrender.
