Guyana to respond to US human trafficking report
The Guyana government is expected to issue a full response to the latest human trafficking report by the United States that kept the country at the same level for the past four years.
However, in an immediate response the Bharrat Jagdeo government says the report does not provide a true reflection of the situation in the country nor has it taken into consideration the significant steps taken to address the problem.
It says the report has magnified the situation and several persons have been charged and prosecuted in relation to the trafficking in persons.
The State Department’s Human Trafficking watch list, released on Monday, had Guyana at Tier 2, a position it has held for the fourth consecutive year as a result of its failure to implement recommendations made by the United States.
