JAAA in process of selecting junior teams
The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) is now in the process of selecting the junior teams for the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Santo Domingo from July 2 to 4 and the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada from July 19 to 25.
Trials for the overseas meets were held at GC Foster College in Spanish Town at the weekend.
Among the highlights of the meet was reigning World Junior 100-metre champion Dexter Lee who took the sprint double.
Lee, who won the Under-20 100 metres in world junior leading time of 10.20 which equaled his personal best on Saturday, returned yesterday to win the 200 metres in 20.86.
Wolmer’s Boys’ Odean Skeen also captured the sprint double as the won the boys’ Under-17 200 metres in 21.93 to follow his win in the 100 metres the previous day.
Calabar High School top thrower Chad Wright continued his impressive form as he won both the Under-20 boys’ shot put and discus events.
Holmwood Technical’s Janieve Russell was also in good form. Russell followed up her victory in the girls’ Under-20 long jump on the opening day to win the 400 metres in 54.50 yesterday.
