Election petition case today
The hearing of the highly-anticipated election petition case against three Government members in Antigua is to start today in the Court of Appeal of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
The petitions have been brought against Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer education minister Jacqui Quinn-Leandro and tourism minister John Maginley.
The appeals court is to decide whether it will uphold or overturn a March 31 High Court judgment which voided the elections of the three MPs.
The ruling was based on polling day irregularities, particularly the long delays before voting began in the three constituencies during the March 2009 general election.
The MPs have been granted a stay of the High Court ruling, allowing them continue in government pending the appeals court ruling.
