The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) says it will be intensifying efforts to tackle the rise in dengue fever cases across the Caribbean and Latin America.

The PAHO’s announcement comes as officials in Puerto Rico recently announced that a third person has died from the virus.

Puerto Rico's health secretary has warned that the island is at risk of having its worst ever dengue fever outbreak if necessary precautions are not immediately taken.

The government has urged citizens to act quickly to destroy breeding areas for disease-spreading mosquitoes.
