Sarwan in, Shiv out of Guyana’s squad
Ramnaresh Sarwan will make his return to top-level competitive action, following a recent hamstring injury, when he leads Guyana in the Caribbean Twenty/Twenty (T/20) Championship, starting later this month.
The Guyanese however, will be without Shivnarine Chanderpaul, their other World-class batsman, for the competition, which will be contested from July 22 to 31 in Barbados and Trinidad.
Sarwan was sidelined during the recent home series against South Africa, when he pulled a hamstring while batting in the second One-day International (ODI) on May 24, 2010 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
With Chanderpaul now missing, the responsibility will fall on other international stars such as Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin and Sewnarine Chattergoon, as well as West Indies-A batsman, Assad Fudadin, to pick up the slack.
Guyana have been drawn in Group-B, where they face Windward Islands on July 23, and Combined Campuses & Colleges on July 25 in the preliminary round at Kensington Oval, before the competition switches to Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, where they take on Barbados on July 29.
