Liverpool expect Torres back within four weeks

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to be fit for the start of the new Premier League season despite sustaining a thigh injury as Spain won the World Cup in South Africa on Sunday.

Liverpool say Torres should be back in action within a month after rupturing a muscle in his left thigh, putting him in contention for the club opener against Arsenal on August 15.

Torres struggled to make the World Cup after missing the end of Liverpool's season with right knee injuries and looked sluggish in South Africa.

He pulled up shortly after coming on during extra time of Sunday's 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final.
