Jamaica, Puerto Rico for gold medal match

Jamaica edged Trinidad and Tobago 62-59 in the semi-finals of the Women’s Centrobasket Championship in Puerto Rico last night to qualify directly for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship for Women and the Pan-American Games.



Jamaica will play hosts Puerto Rico for the Gold in the Women’s Centrobasket Championship tomorrow.



Puerto Rico defeated Mexico, 78-63 to advance and with the win, they also grabbed a spot at the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship and the Pan-American Games.



Simone Edwards led Jamaica with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Tajay Ashmeade had 12 points and Vanessa Gidden along with Nicole Louden 11.



For T&T Rhea Codio scored 16 points, Sharmion Selman 12 and Ayanna Phillip 11.



T&T will now face Mexico for the third and last spot available for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship.
