Australia set Pakistan world record total

Pakistan, set a world-record run chase of 440 to win the first Test against Australia at Lords, were 96 for one at Sports Time on today’s third day of the match in England.



Imran Farhat was dismissed by Steven Smith for 24.



The batsmen at the crease are Salman Butt on 49 and Azhar Ali on 22.



Earlier, Australia resuming this morning on 100 for four were all out for 334 on the stroke of tea, leaving Pakistan a world-record run chase of 440 to win the match.



The Australian tail added vital runs in the afternoon session, with Number 10 batsman Ben Hilfenhaus flourishing in the sun by registering a test-best score of 56 not out from 84 balls.



Simon Katich was Australia’s top scorer in the second innings with 83.



Umar Gul was the leading wickettaker for Pakistan with four for 61, while Mohammad Asif had three for 77.



Pakistan have never successfully chased more than the 315 they scored against Australia in 1994 in Karachi. The world-record chase is 418.



Scores in the match so far are Australia 253 and 334, Pakistan 148 and 96 for one.
