Pakistan fighting back in world record chase

Pakistan reached 114 for one against Australia at stumps on day three of the first test at Lord's today, in a world record run chase, after being set 440 to win.



Australia leg spinner, Steven Smith, claimed his maiden test wicket by removing Imran Farhat, 24, after tea.



Salman Butt was unbeaten on 58 for his second half-century in the match and debutant Azhar Ali had 28, as the Pakistanis needed 326 more to win.



Earlier, Australia resuming this morning on 100 for four were bowled out for 334 on the stroke of tea.



The Australian tail added vital runs in the afternoon session, with Number 10 batsman, Ben Hilfenhaus, flourishing in the sun, by registering a test-best score of 56 not out from 84 balls.



Simon Katich was Australia’s top scorer in the second innings with 83.



Umar Gul was the leading wicket taker for Pakistan with four for 61, while Mohammad Asif had three for 77.



Scores in the match so far: Australia 253 and 334; Pakistan 148 and 114 for one.
