Antigua's Opposition Leader, Lester Bird, and a party colleague, Asot Michael, are facing a criminal investigation over alleged financial wrongdoing during their time in government.
In a statement the Antigua police said the probe was set up after the police force received a forensic report conducted by international investigator Robert Lindquist.
A civil case has already been launched in the alleged overpayment of at least US$14 million to a Japanese contractor.
Bird said he is not worried about the investigation.
He called the probe another attempt by the government to bar him and his colleague from sitting in Parliament.
