Powell, Bolt face off today
Six Jamaicans, including double world record holder Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, will be in action today as the Diamond League continues in Paris, France.
Bolt and Powell, who share the fastest time this season of 9.82 seconds, will go head-to-head for the first time this year in the 100 metres, scheduled to start at 2:46 this afternoon Jamaica time.
The race also includes another Jamaican, the improving Yohan Blake.
Following an Achilles' tendon injury, Bolt returned to competition in Lausanne, Switzerland, on July 9 and clocked 9.82 seconds. That matched Powell's time in Rome on June 10.
Missing today will be American sprinter Tyson Gay, who beat Powell in Gateshead last weekend.
Powell said he made a mistake at the British Grand Prix by underestimating Gay.
Jermaine Gonzales will be the first Jamaican in action when he contests the men’s 400 metres at 1:03.
The other Jamaicans listed to compete are Dwight Thomas in the men’s 110-metre hurdles and Beijing Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson, who will run in the women’s 200 metres.
