Jamaica World Junior team now travelling to Canada
Jamaica’s track and field delegation for the 13th International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships in Canada departed early this morning.
The group of 36 athletes and 12 officials are scheduled to arrive in Toronto before moving on to Moncton where the meet is scheduled to start on Monday.
The team wrapped up its final preparation last weekend at GC Foster College in Spanish Town following a four-day training camp.
Defending boys’ 100-metre champion Dexter Lee will be aiming to create history at the championships when he tries to win back-to-back titles in the sprint event.
He will be the country’s main medal hope and he is expected to play a key role in the 4 by 100-metres relay.
Jamaica will seek to surpass the six medals won at the last Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland in 2008.
However, technical leader Raymond ‘KC’ Graham, says the team is not expected to surpass the country’s best medal haul of 11 including two gold, five silver and four bronze.
