Bolt sets new meet record to win in Paris

Olympic and World champion, Usain Bolt recovered from a poor start to win the 100 metres at the Paris Diamond League meet in 9.84 seconds today.



Bolt set a new meet record and beat fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell, who finished second in 9.91. Another Jamaican sprinter, Yohan Blake, was third in a personal best 9.95.



Bolt, the world record holder in the 100 and 200, pulled away in the final metres to stay unbeaten at 100 for 14 consecutive finals.



Bolt and Powell, who share the fastest time this year at 9.82 seconds, met for the first time this season.



There was another second place finish at the meet for Jamaica, as Jermaine Gonzales clocked 44.63 to beat his personal best in the men’s 400 metres. Jeremy Wariner won the race in a season best of 44.49.



Beijing Olympic silver medallist, Sherone Simpson of Jamaica finished fourth in the women’s 200 metres in a time of 22.65. American Allyson Felix won in 22.14.



Dwight Thomas of Jamaica clocked a season-best 13. 30 seconds for fifth in the men’s 110 hurdles. American David Oliver posted the fastest time this year to win the event in 12.89 seconds.
