CAC Games Round Up

Olympians Alia Atkinson and Natasha Moodie along with Brad Hamilton have advanced to the medal round of their events on today’s second day of swimming at the CAC Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.



Atkinson, who won Jamaica’s first medal on yesterday’s opening day, leads the qualifiers in the women’s 200-metre individual medley after winning Heat One in two minutes 19.65 seconds, which is a new national senior record.



Moodie and Hamilton also achieved net national senior records.



Moodie advanced to the medal round following a second place finish in Heat One of the Women’s 100-metre freestyle. She clocked 57.18 seconds.



Hamilton booked his place in the final of the men’s 50-metre breaststroke after finishing third in 29.38 seconds.



Meanwhile, Atkinson won Jamaica’s first medal last night by winning gold in the women’s 200-metre breaststroke in a meet record time.



The 21-year-old clocked two minutes 30.99 seconds to erase the mark of two minutes, 33.64 she set in the heats during the morning session.



IN BADMINTON, Jamaica’s male team has won their opening two games in the team event, while the women team is out of medal contention. The Jamaicans defeated Mexico 4-1 and then edged the Dominican Republic 3-2 in men’s action.



The women drew 2-2 with Barbados before going down 4-1 to the Dominica Republic.
