Jamaican Alia Atkinson headlined the evening session of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico yesterday, as she picked up her second gold in two days.

Both gold medals came in meet record times.

The 21-year-old clocked two minutes, 17.31 seconds to win the Women’s 200-metre Individual Medley Final.

She finished ahead of the Mexican pair of Munoz Medrano, who won silver in two minutes, 17.80 seconds and Ramirez Gonzalez, who took bronze in two minutes, 18.39 seconds.

Atkinson won the country’s first medal on Sunday’s opening day in the women’s 200-metre breast stroke.

Atkinson, who contested the event at the Beijing Olympics two years ago, clocked two minutes, 30.99 seconds to win the event, bettering the previous record she set earlier in the heats by almost three seconds.

Jamaicans Natasha Moodie and Brad Hamilton failed to medal after reaching the finals in their events.

Moodie finished fifth in the women’s 100-metre freestyle final in 57.85 seconds, while Hamilton was sixth in the men’s 50-metre breaststroke final in 29.45 seconds.

In Badminton, Jamaica’s male team ticked off two other victories yesterday in the team events. The Jamaicans beat Suriname 4-1 and then turned back Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 in the semi-final.
