Jamaican Olympian search for third gold medal

Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson will go in search of her third gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico later this evening when she contest the 100-metre breaststroke final.



Atkinson qualified for the medal round following a second place finish in Heat 2. She clocked one minute 11.62 to finish behind winner Byanca Rodriguez of Mexico, who clocked one minute 11.60.



The 21-year-old has already won two gold medals in the women’s 200-metre Individual Medley and the women’s 200-metre breaststroke.



Dominic Walter has also advanced to the medal round of his event. He clocked eight minutes 54.16 seconds in the 800-metre freestyle to set a new national 15-17 age-group and senior record.



The women’s 400-metre medley team has also advanced to the medal round.



Those finals are also scheduled for later this evening.
