Rwandan President says upcoming election will be free

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has promised that next month's elections will be free.

Speaking at his campaign launch earlier today, Kagame said voters will be given the chance to decide their new government.

However, several opposition critics have been killed or attacked recently, and one senior official was being buried as the Rwandan president spoke.

The almost decapitated body of Democratic Green Party Vice-President Andre Kagwa Rwisereka was found in Butare in the south of the country Rwanda last week after he was reported missing.

His party cannot compete in the elections, and like several others has claimed that the government has blocked its registration.

The government has denied involvement in the killing.
