Dominicans urge to get generators

Dominicans are being urged to acquire private generators after the island\'s sole supplier, the Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) said it was having difficulty meeting the needs of the population.



The company warned of power outages in coming weeks as a result of the generator problems.



DOMLEC\'s Public Relations Officer, Adina Valentine, said without rainfall the hydro plant is producing much less than what was expected and the company has been faced with defects that developed in two of its diesel units.



To help reduce its energy output, DOMLEC yesterday called for businesses and homeowners to use generators.
