St Lucia Opposition Leader wants more ministers to go
The Opposition Leader in St Lucia, Dr Kenny Anthony, has called for Prime Minister Stephenson King to continue his house-cleaning exercise.
King dismissed the attorney general, Dr Nicholas Frederick, last week.
While a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister gave no reason for Frederick’s dismissal, there is speculation that the dismissal is related to the Tuxedo Villas scandal, in which the Cabinet authorised the health minister to transfer duty free facilities intended for his guest house to his private residence.
Dr Anthony says Frederick should not be made to take the fall in the controversial affair and is also calling for the dismissal of the health minister, Dr Keith Mondesir and Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet.
He noted that Chastanet misled the court, but said the issue began with the health minister, who engaged in an elaborate ploy to prevent the Customs Department from laying charges against him.
The Opposition leader says the St Lucia Labour Party will not rest until both the health and tourism ministers are dealt with.
