Tropical Storm Bonnie has formed over the central Bahamas, becoming the second named storm of the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami have reported Bonnie as having winds of near 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Forecasters say they expect rainfall from the tropical storm to produce between three to five inches of rainfall over the central and northwest Bahamas.

Portions of the Bahamas and in the neighbouring Turks and Caicos Islands have been experiencing torrential rains and lightening since yesterday when the storm was a tropical wave.
