Jamaican swimming star Alia Atkinson will go for her fourth gold medal this evening at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

The 21-year-old Olympian is down to contest the women’s 50-metre breaststroke, scheduled to start at 5:10 Jamaica time.

Atkinson qualified for the final after winning her heat in a new national senior and meet record earlier today. She clocked 32.38.

Atkinson has already won gold medals in the 100-metre breaststroke, the 200-metre individual medley and the 200-metre breaststroke, all in meet record times.

Natasha Moodie and the men’s 4 by 100 medley relay team have also qualified for medal rounds. Those finals will also take place later today.

Moodies will contest the women’s 50-metre freestyle at 5 p.m. Jamaica time. Moodie booked her place today following victory in heat three in a national senior record time of 25.79. She held the old mark of 25.95.

The men’s quartet of Jason Adams, Brad Hamilton, Ramon Hamilton and Brian Forte qualified for the medal round following a fourth place finish in the opening heat. The team clocked 4 minutes 03.34 seconds to break the 26-year-old national senior record.

That final is scheduled to start at 6:10 Jamaica time.
