The United Nations police serving in Haiti have arrested two men who escaped from jail.

The men are suspected of being responsible for several rapes in camps for displaced persons.

The camps were set up after the January 12 earthquake that killed more than three hundred thousand people and levelled parts of Port-au-Prince.

The men were arrested late on Wednesday night in the capital, in a joint operation involving the operations office, its tactical intervention group and the Haitian National Police.

The international police say one man was arrested in a camp after its residents called an emergency police number to report him, while the other was arrested after his apartment was searched.
