Guyana now has observer status in the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).

ALBA is a Venezuelan-led organisation aimed at bringing about deeper economic integration between the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo says the decision to accept observer status was made during his visit to Venezuela last week.

He believes having observer status will be beneficial to the country.
