Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo says border issues were not mentioned in his first conversation with newly elected Surinamese President Desi Bouterse.
Tensions have often arisen between the two CARICOM neighbours over a number of territorial, maritime, border and other issues.
President Jagdeo said he is hoping that Guyana and Suriname can focus on mutually beneficial joint projects.
The main Opposition in Georgetown has also expressed hopes for stronger relations with Suriname in the future.
