Rain wrecks opening round of one-day tournament

All three games in the opening round of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 One-Day Trophy in St Lucia were washed out today, after heavy rain doused the island leaving venues under water and forcing officials to abandon any hopes of play.

The only venue that saw action was the Gros Islet Playing Field. But rain allowed only three minutes of play before forcing the teams from the field, with Leeward Islands on three without loss after being sent in by Guyana.

There was no play at Micoud in the encounter between defending champions Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

At the Dennery Playing Field, Barbados and Windward Islands were also restricted to the pavilion before play was abandoned at 11:45.

All teams were awarded a single point.

There is a rest day in the tournament tomorrow before the second series of matches bowl off Saturday.
