Efforts are continuing in Guyana to put in place a broad opposition coalition to contest the next general election.

The move comes despite a declaration by opposition party, Alliance for Change that it is no longer keen on the idea.

The group, known as the Joint Opposition Political Parties has worked on a number of issues in the past.

It said it will continue with its initiative to form a broad coalition to contest elections due before October of next year.

The Alliance for Change, the country’s second largest opposition party has announced that it will not be involved in any partnership that also includes the ruling party or the main opposition.

In a statement, the alliance said in spite of the decision by the AFC, it will continue its consultations with all interested political parties, interest groups and organizations on forming a broad coalition to contest the next general election.
