Forecasters are projecting that a tropical depression formed in the Atlantic Ocean yesterday could develop into a tropical storm by later today.

This is the fourth tropical depression since the start of the hurricane season on June 1.

The tropical depression is travelling on a path projected to take it north of the islands of the Eastern Caribbean.

Late yesterday, it had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour, and was located about 1,365 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving in a west-northwest direction at 17 miles per hour.

Based on the path projected by the United States National Hurricane Center, the tropical depression is expected to travel north of the Leeward Islands by Thursday morning and miss the Bahamas.

If the tropical depression develops further it will be named Colin.
