Former footballer elected GFA president
Former national player Chenny Joseph has been chosen to lead the troubled Grenada Football Association (GFA), replacing a committee which had been installed to run the country’s football affairs for the last nine months.
Joseph, a left winger who represented Grenada in the late 80s and early 90s, was elected by acclamation as the only nominee for the position during an extra ordinary General Council meeting at the weekend.
The GFA has been rocked by turmoil and allegations of financial impropriety in recent years, leading to the removal of then president Ashley ‘Ram’ Folkes.
Joseph replaces the FIFA approved normalisation committee, which steered the football fraternity through a turbulent period.
The committee, headed by speaker of the House of Representatives George McGuire, was appointed by the council after FIFA recommended Folkes’ axing.
It was initially given a six-month period which was extended to nine, to adopt FIFA approved statues and to elect the executive for the new term.
