Asafa Powell withdraws from DN Galan meet
Asafa Powell was forced to withdraw from Friday’s DN Galan Samsung Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, Sweden due to injury.
Powell, who was slated to face his Jamaican teammate, world record holder Usain Bolt and American Tyson Gay in the 100 metres, suffered a minor groin injury in the Paris Diamond League meeting last month and has since suffered additional setbacks.
Doyle Management Group, the firm that represents Powell, disclosed the information earlier today.
The management group says while the groin injury healed over the ensuing days, a back and hamstring problem then developed.
The latest setback, described by Powell as tightness and severe pain, prevented the Jamaican from training for 10 days after his Paris race.
Powell, Bolt and Gay were scheduled to face off for the first time this season.
The last time the three met, Bolt set a world record in the 100 metre, clocking 9.58 at the World Championships in the German capital of Berlin, with Gay finishing second in 9.71. Powell finished third in 9.84.
