Former Reggae Boy captain Warren Barrett will retain his job as national goalkeeper coach although he was banned for five years last night by the St James Football Association following his fist-fight with referee Donat McKenley on Sunday, July 25.

It was widely speculated that Barrett would have lost his job after the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) suspended him pending a disciplinary meeting.

However, JFF president Captain Burrell says Barrett will continue in his role.

The incident, which occurred at Jarrett Park, saw Barrett and McKenley coming to blows following a verbal clash along the touchline in the Steve Bucknor Masters League second leg semi-final game between Barrett's Violet Tourers and Hanover Masters.

At the end of the fight, Barrett was left sporting a bloody nose while blood was seen dripping from the lips of referee McKenley, who also had a dislocated finger.

Barrett stood between the sticks for Jamaica during the historic appearance at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
