More than 400 home owners and farmers in Trinidad are expecting compensation from the government for damage done to their properties by the torrential rain of the last few days.
Heavy rain has caused flooding in central, south and northwest parts of the country.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has been visiting the affected areas, and handing out food hampers to people who lost supplies in the flood.
She has also cancelled a planned cabinet retreat to Tobago, and instructed her ministers to look after the needs of their constituents.
Flooding in central Trinidad has become an annual occurrence attributed to a lack of maintenance of clogged water courses during the dry season.
