Bolt, Gay expect fast race in Stockholm
Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt and American Tyson Gay say they still expect a fast 100-metre race at tomorrow’s Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden despite the late withdrawal of Asafa Powell.
The three fastest men in the world were due to face each other for the first time this year at the DN Galan, but Powell pulled out yesterday after failing to shake off a lower-back injury.
Bolt, the world 100 and 200-metre record holders, says it’s sad that Powell is out as people were really looking forward to the showdown. However, he says its still going to be a quick time.
Bolt says in the absence of Powell, he is still wary of the threat that Gay poses.
Gay says he had mentally prepared himself to face both of the Jamaicans in the 100 metres final at the ancient Olympic stadium.
He says Powell’s withdrawal is sad, but the race is still going to be a big one.
Bolt and Powell share this season's best time of 9.82 seconds.
Bolt set the current world record of 9.58 the last time the three met on the track, at the World Championships in Berlin last August.
