Honda recalls older model cars

Car company Honda has announced the recall of 383,000 older-model Accord, Civic and Element vehicles in the United States.

The cars are being recalled because of problems with their ignition mechanism which could cause the vehicles to roll away.

The recall includes 197,000 Accord and 117,000 Civic sedans in the 2003 model and about 69,000 Element vehicles in 2003 and 2004 models.

In a statement, the automaker said if the ignition interlock mechanism becomes worn out or damaged, it may become possible for the ignition key to be removed while the vehicle is not in park.

Honda says this could cause the vehicle to roll away and possibly crash.

The car company says it has received several complaints about the problem, and in some instances this defect has resulted in crashes.
