Dominica Speaker denies asset charges

The Speaker of the Dominica Parliament Alix Boyd-Knights is questioning the inclusion of her name on the list of public officials who have not declared their assets to the country's Integrity Commission.

Boyd-Knights is among 25 officials being hauled before a magistrate's court for failing to declare their assets.

She says she has taken steps to protect her reputation.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gene Pestaina says the Speaker did not adhere to the existing rules in the papers that she filed.

According to the DPP, the information that the Speaker filed is what is called a statement of affairs, which does not amount to a declaration according to the law.
