Guyana's Housing Minister Irfaan Ali is to appear before the Parliament's Privileges Committee on charges of contempt.

House Speaker Ralph Ramkarran ruled Monday evening that a prima facie case had been made by opposition parliamentarian Khemraj Ramjattan in reference to a request by the government for additional funds for the Housing Ministry.

According to the Alliance for Change member, the funds had already been disbursed and spent when Mr Ali made his request.

Speaker Ramkarran said Mr Ali will have an opportunity to explain the matter before the committee.
