Wyclef to govern Haiti in English and Creole

Hip hop artiste Wyclef Jean says he plans to govern Haiti in English and Creole if elected president.

Haitian politicians traditionally speak Creole and French - the language of government in Port-au-Prince.

Jean was speaking during an interview with local station Radio Metropole, after returning to his homeland.

He declared his candidacy last week ahead of the November 28 poll.

However he will first have to meet a number of conditions under Haitian law, including proving that he has lived in the country for five consecutive years leading up to the election.

The final list of candidates will be published next week.
