Fast rising sprinter Yohan Blake is among five Jamaicans who will be in action on today’s first day of the two-day Diamond League Aviva London Grand Prix Track and Field Meet at Crystal Palace.

Another eight Jamaicans including inform Jermaine Gonzales will compete on the final day. Gonzales smashed the Jamaica senior 400-metre record when he sped to an impressive 44.40 seconds to win the event at the Monaco Diamond League meeting last month.

Gonzales’ time was also the fastest in the world this year.

Meanwhile, Blake and trainer partner Mario Forsythe are down to contest the men’s 100 metres, which is scheduled to start at 1.14 p.m. Jamaica time with the opening heat.

The final is slated to start at 2.48 p.m. Former 100-metre world record holder Jamaican Asafa Powell was listed to face the starter but pulled out because of ongoing back trouble.

The race will also feature American Tyson Gay, who is on a high after defeating Usain Bolt, the world 100 and 200 metre record holder at the DN Galan meet in Stockholm earlier this month. It was the Jamaican first 100-metre defeat in more than two years.

Delloreen Ennis-London will be the first Jamaican in action on today’s first day. She will contest the women’s 100-metre hurdles scheduled to start at 12.34 p.m.

Other Jamaicans down to run on today’s opening day are Beijing Olympic Games 100-metre silver medallist Sherone Simpson and Olympic and World 100-metre silver medallist Kerron Stewart. They are down to contest the women’s 200 metres at 2.18 p.m.
