The Unions and the management of the British Airport Authority, are to meet today in an attempt to avert a strike that could close six UK airports later this month.

Security staff, engineers, and fire fighters have voted to strike over a 1.5 per cent pay offer.

The Airport Authority has said industrial action could result in the closure of the Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports.

The authority also said more than a million passengers would be affected come next week if the strikes go head.
