Guyana investigates release

The Ministry of Home Affairs in Guyana is investigating how a release quoting the minister, Clement Rohee making controversial remarks emanated from the ministry.

The release issued from the ministry's email address, quoted Rohee as saying that the proceeds of the illegal drug trade are being funnelled into Guyana's economy and could eliminate some legitimate businesses.

That position contradicted previous government statements.

Rohee has now said that he never made the statement that purported to come from his ministry.

He said investigations are currently underway to ascertain where the document was released and who authorised its release.
