Six Jamaicans to compete at Youth Olympics tonight

Track and field at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore will begin tonight Jamaica time with five Jamaicans in action.



Megan Simmonds will be the first Jamaican on the track when she contests Heat 2 of the Girls’ 100-metre hurdles at 9.17 p.m. Thirteen minutes later, Janieve Russell will begin her campaign in the Girls’ Long Jump qualification.



The other Jamaicans in action tonight are Frederic Dacres, who competes in the Boys’ Discus, Stefan Fennell, who competes in Heat 3 of the Boys 110-metre hurdles, Olivia James, who runs in Heat 2 of the Girls’ 400 metres and Lennox Williams, who takes part in Heat 4 of the Boys’ 400 metres.



Jamaican Swimmer Brian Forte will be in the pool tonight at 8.44 p.m. He is down to swim in Heat 4 of the Men’s 50-metre Freestyle.



Meanwhile, Dennis Coke of Jamaica lost 21-6, 21-6 to Lucas Claerbout of France in his final Pool ‘C’ match of the boys’ singles in badminton earlier today.



Coke has lost all three of his matches in the preliminary round. He was first beaten 21-16, 21-11 by Phet-Phanom Keophiachan of Lao yesterday before suffering a 21-9, 21-10 loss to India’s Prannoy Haseena.
