LIAT to accommodate night landing

Regional airline, LIAT, is scheduled to test the facilities at the Melville Hall airport in Dominica tonight, a few weeks after authorities said the airport in the north of the island would accommodate night landings for the first time.

LIAT's Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown says the flight would be for testing purposes and will be done in conjunction with the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority and the Dominican authorities.

In April, Dominica's Ports Minister, Rayburn Blackmore, said the night flights would commence in May, but that has not yet materalised.

Blackmore also indicated that an Airport Facility and Instrument Procedure expert from the Mexico-based regional office conducted a study within the past month and decided that the upgraded facility fulfils international requirements.
