Haiti projects approved

The Interim Recovery Commission in Haiti has moved a step closer to implementing a set of priorities aimed at helping the country rebuild after January's earthquake.

The commission's job is to determine which reconstruction projects are to receive backing from multi-billion-dollar funding pledged by foreign donors.

So far it has approved $1.6 billion in projects, including a $500 million plan to overhaul the country's education system and $200 million to create 50,000 new jobs in agriculture.

Meanwhile, former US president Bill Clinton, who chairs the commission along with Haiti’s Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, says he would also develop a plan to make sure donors give the funds they have pledged.
