Chanderpaul knock out for a duck
West Indies batsman Shiv Chanderpaul suffered a rare failure for Lancashire yesterday when he fell for a first ball ‘duck’ against Kent on the opening day of their Division One fixture.
The veteran left-hander, who has been in great form for the north England county in his brief stint, edged seamer Darren Stevens to out-of-favour England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones at 56 for three after the visitors won the toss at St Lawrence Ground.
Chanderpaul’s demise came in a spell where Stevens snared three wickets in 13 balls as Kent claimed four wickets for a single run in the space of 31 balls.
Steven Croft then stroked 65 and Sajid Mahmood cracked a rearguard 60 to help propel Lancashireto 266, recovering from a worrisome 157 for six.
At the close, Kent were 53 for two.
In Division Two, former Windies seamer Corey Collymore had better fortunes for Sussex, claiming two for 37 to limit Derbyshire to 242 all out.
At the close, Chris Nash 81 not out and Ed Joyce 69 not out had steered the hosts to 170 without loss.
