10 Jamaicans for Diamond League meet today
Eleven Jamaicans are down to compete at the Weltklasse meeting in Zurich, Switzerland today, the penultimate meet of the inaugural Samsung Diamond League series.
Among the Jamaicans are Double Olympic 200-metre gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown and fast rising sprinter Yohan Blake.
Blake will face American Walter Dix in the men’s 200 metres scheduled to start at 1:55 p.m. Jamaica time.
The 20-year-old Blake has been creating a storm this season in both the 100 and 200 metres and several weeks ago he became the country’s second fastest man in the half-lap event, when he finished second to the American Tyson Gay at the Monaco meet in 19.78. Jamaica’s Steve Mullings will also run in the race.
Campbell-Brown is down to run in the women’s 100 metres where she will face American Carmelita for the third time this season. Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart are also down to run. That race is set to start at 1:30 Jamaica time.
The improving Jamaican quarter miler Jermaine Gonzales will also be in action. He will run in the men’s 400-metre along with his Jamaican teammate Ricardo Chambers at 1:35.
The remaining Jamaicans listed to compete are Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams in the women’s 400 metres, series leader Kaliese Spencer in the women’s 400-metre hurdles and Dwight Thomas in the men’s 110-metre hurdles.
