Jamaicans Jackson, Farquarson qualify for medal rounds

Jamaican athletes Shericka Jackson and Rochelle Farquarson last night qualified for the medal round of their events on the seventh day of competition at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Jackson booked her place in Sunday’s final of the women’s 200 metres after finishing second in Heat 2. She clocked 24.24 seconds to finish behind American winner Olivia Ekpone, who ran 24.05 seconds.
Farquarson qualified for the girls’ triple jump final after a fourth place finish in the qualifying round. She registered 12.46 metres.
In Swimming, Brian Forte of Jamaica failed to advance to the medal round of the men’s 100-metre freestyle after finishing third in his heat in 55.62 seconds.
Azerbaijan and Italy each have five gold medals.
