German journalist makes history with story on Bolt
German Journalist Felix Lill was awarded the 2010 Austrian Sports Journalism Award in the Print Category for a story on Jamaica’s triple Olympic and World Championships gold medallist Usain Bolt.
The story was filed from Kingston, Jamaica.
The award-winning article appeared in three European publications, Fit For Live, a monthly magazine on endurance sports from Switzerland, Kurieran Austrian daily, and Hamburger Abendblatt, a German daily.
Lill says the award was really surprising because he had submitted it for the Under-25 category and ended up winning the adult’s prize.
Lill says the focus of the story was on Bolt’s achievements, his character and what his achievements mean for his country.
The award-winning story was produced between Bolt’s two amazing world record runs in Beijing 2008 and Berlin 2009.
The interview with the sprinter was facilitated by the organisers of Reggae Marathon through race director Alfred Francis, while Lill was visiting Jamaica to cover the 2008 staging.
